The West Main Street Architectural Design Control District is a locally designated zone that governs how the exteriors of buildings should look on West Main Street. [1]

The district serves as an overlay zone to the city's zoning ordinance. The Board of Architectural Review must issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for any alteration to residential or commercial buildings along the corridor. [2] The ADC guidelines describe the corridor as an "increasingly vital commercial district with strong definition of the street edge and moderate pedestrian activity, typically medium-scaled, turn-of-the-century masonry structures, generally mixed-use with commercial/service below and residential above, street parking with small off street lots." [3]
