The Virginia Department of Conservation and recreation is a state government entity that oversees Virginia State Parks and Natural Areas. It interacts with Albemarle County on matters of conservation easements and other issues.

Locally, the agency has been instrumental in the evolution of the Biscuit Run community from a future mixed-use development into a future local park. DCR rents the 1,200 acres to Albemarle for a nominal fee. [1]
