The historic Venable neighborhood was created to house UVA professors during the 1890s. [1] The neighborhood's architectural designs show how the University expanded until the 1970s.

The Venable neighborhood acquired its name from Venable Elementary School, which opened in 1925 and was named for Confederate officer and UVA professor Charles Scott Venable.

Planning

Charlottesville City Council accepted a completed neighborhood study on August 7, 1989. [2]
