Issue with CAPTCHA

...save issues - I find this CAPTCHA glitchy...at times shows over 10x or requires log out/in to save. (I use Firefox, so maybe that is the issue with this particular CAOTCHA). Jmh6d (talk) 08:44, 26 February 2019 (EST)

(Part A)...I'm not much of a tech person. I'm not sure what you mean about the issue with CAPTCHA but I'll loop in some of the more tech-focused people. Thanks for all you're doing!

Hey all and yes thanks for all your edits! I've turned off the ReCaptcha when creating a new article (I think that's what is being triggered?) in case that helps, but Rory might have better ideas for how to automate a bot to do this for us.
--Meekohi (talk) 11:42, 26 February 2019 (EST)

Now that you mention it - creating a new article did appear to be part of the "trigger" issue when combined with the amount of TIME spend working on the article on screen. My workaround to avoid solving the picture test multiple times without success, was to cut the entire article>logging out>logging in>paste the article and then save. Found informative article on the subject of CAPTCHA - if nothing else, the last paragraph is worth reading for a grin. Why CAPTCHAs have gotten so difficult Demonstrating you’re not a robot is getting harder and harder.

Another security option to be considered? - Security questions germane to Cville.
Example: To edit this page, please answer the question that appears below:
What is the name of Thomas Jefferson's home in Albemarle County?

Dates / chronology function

Glad to see dates being used. I added Help:Dates article and new Template:Event Date...this new template appears to work with your February 23 article. Please let me know otherwise. (found a similar template - Template:Date - last updated in 2012. I was not sure what it did, other than showing today's date, so left as-is.) Rather then manually adding days, is it possible to code a bot which can create and format the remaining 300+ days?

(Part B) Thanks for picking up the ball on the dates - I'm interested in getting the chronology function to work...
--Seantubbs (talk) 11:26, 26 February 2019 (EST)

I am still sorting out how to make Category:Chronology work with Dates (Days and Years) and the wikilink feature. From what I gather, Cvillepedia was originally setup with "Day" and "Year" DATES assigned to Categories rather then Pages. Since the wikilink feature only links to pages, and not to categories or subcategories, PAGES need to be created for the separate "Dates" and "Years"...if my assumption is correct, maybe a bot can create the pages for each year and the 300+ date pages.?

Categories

Is there a way to display a list of ALL of the active categories and subcategories to choose from? Jmh6d (talk) 01:03, 9 February 2019 (EST)

Yes - check here for a special page on categories, which should list all of them. There are other "special pages" too but let's start with that one? --Seantubbs (talk) 09:52, 9 February 2019 (EST)

  2. Need to create an election 2013 template

Seminar?

Looks like you're getting lots of new contributors, which is great. One thing that they added a ton of, if you can remind them, is the {{DEFAULTSORT:LAST,FIRST}} without subbing the actual names. We have jillions of those, now. Something you should consider adding to the training. B.S. Lawrence 13:56, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

This was my first training session on this, so it's a learning curve for me, definitely. I'm going through and patrolling and fixing all the mistakes and using the time to polish up the empty entries a little. Really appreciate the organizational work you're doing and trying my best to learn from you! --Seantubbs 13:58, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

References

Hey Seantubbs, one thing that I've noticed (maybe it's only on the older pages?) is that you've added some references that go to a home page rather than to the actual reference. See the changes I just made on the Dominion Development Resources page: referencing /projects rather than the DDR home page. Another (less clear due to volume of changes) example was on Terry W. Hawkins re:the loper archive references. When possible, it'll make reference checking much easier if you include the link containing the reference content. Thanks! -- B.S. Thanks for your welcome

Delete Sandbox Pages

Can you delete the following six sandbox pages...I don't need them anymore - assuming deleting pages can only be done by an Admin. but if I can delete pages myself, please direct me to the instructions. Thanks!

  1. Sandbox-City Government
  2. Sandbox-December 3, 2018 City Council regular meeting
  3. Sandbox-List of Non-profit organizations
  4. Sandbox-New Hill Development
  5. Sandbox-November 5, 2018 City Council regular meeting
  6. Sandbox-VoteTrack

Let me get back to you - I don't necessarily know the answer but that's a good question. Are you interested in getting more involved with the administration of the site? --Seantubbs (talk) 20:39, 16 June 2020 (EDT)

Yes, I would be interested in the opportunities of administrative duties (with the understanding I can't break Cvillepedia ;-) Jmh6d (talk) 17:34, 25 June 2020 (EDT)
