The winery was opened in 1999 as Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyards by Patricia Kluge.[1] It closed in 2010, with no one willing to bid the opening $19 million price for the 907 acre property[2].

Real estate mogul and television reality star Donald Trump has expressed interest in purchasing the property. [3] and Trump eventually[when?] reopened it under his name.[citation needed]
