The Transitional Care Hospital(TCH) is owned by the University of Virginia located at Northridge Medical Park on U.S. 250 west of Charlottesville.[2] It is intended for those who need long-term treatment of at least 25 days and costs about $1,900 per day. The facility houses all private rooms with 40 hospital beds; 11 beds are equipped for bariatric patients.[3]

The government will inspect the facility before a six month demonstration period which will likely house 10 or fewer patients. The demonstration period will confirm if the facility meets Medicare requirements related to how long patients stay. Afterward, all 40 hospital beds will be open.[3]
