Thomas J. Williams (1832 – 1922) Born in Philadelphia, Williams became Charlottesville’s Fire Chief in 1853, shortly after his arrival in town. He held the post until his death. Williams was one of the oldest fire chiefs in active service in the United States at the time of his death in 1922.
