Thomas J. Michie, Jr.
Thomas Johnson Michie, Jr. (1931-2019) served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1971 to 1980 and then as state senator from 1980 to 1992. Mr. Michie (D) was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, former chairman of the Commission on State Aid to Localities and Joint Subcommittee on Annexation, and sponsor of the original versions of the subject legislation.[1] [2]
By unanimous vote of the City Council, Michie was appointed to the Charlottesville School Board on June 7th, 1965 to fill the unexpired term of Charles A. Via, Jr., expiring June 30, 1967. In 1967, Michie was re-appointed to the School Board and served until June 30, 1970.
Family
Michie's father, Judge Thomas Johnson Michie IV (also know as Thomas J. Michie, Sr.; 1896- April 9, 1973) served as a member of city council from 1954 to 1960, and as councilor/mayor for the last two years of that period. In 1942, Judge Michie published a history of his family, The Michies, going back to a Scottish immigrant, known as "Scotch John" Michie.
His son, Edmund R. "Ned" Michie was appointed to the School Board in 2004 by the Charlottesville City Council prior to the move to an elected School Board.
