The Hook was a free weekly newspaper distributed on Thursdays that covered Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Hawes Spencer was the founder and editor from February 2002 to January 2013. [1] The publication is owned by Better Publications LLC[2]. The weekly ceased publication after its September 26, 2013 issue. [3]
History
Spencer founded The Hook after he was removed from the editor's post at the C-VILLE Weekly[4]. The first issue was published on February 7, 2002.
Blair Kelly, a partner with Better Publications, attributed the closure is related to "business and editorial perspectives." [5]
Community promotions
In 2009, the Hook sponsored the first Charlottesville Restaurant Week[citation needed].
