Terry W. Hawkins is a former Albemarle County sheriff and one-time candidate for the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

Biography

Hawkins attended Lane High School and played defensive end of the football team. He got his start in law enforcement at the age of 20 when he joined the University of Virginia Police Department[1].

A long-time resident of Crozet, Hawkins moved to the Mill Creek neighborhood in 1997[2].

Service as Sheriff

Hawkins was first elected sheriff in 1987.

In 1999, Hawkins was the Republican nominee for the Scottsville seat on the Board that was vacated by his first cousin, Forrest Marshall, Jr[3]. The County Republican party nominated Hawkins at their caucus on May 8, 1999[2].

His opponent was Democrat Lindsay Dorrier, who was seeking a return to the Board. One of the major issues that year was growth in the County.

"I don't look forward to a lot of people moving in here, turning into another Fairfax County," Hawkins told the Daily Progress[1]. "But you can't stop growth."

Hawkins received the endorsement of the Conservative Coalition[4].
