- 1817 – In a Masonic ceremony, President James Monroe laid the cornerstone for the first building of Central College, now known as the University of Virginia. Former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were in attendance. Completed in 1819, Pavilion VII was the Academical Village’s first building and served as the University’s first library until the Rotunda was completed in 1826. Since 1907 the pavilion has housed the Colonnade Club, which was established as a place for faculty to socialize and exchange ideas.
- 1906 – University of Virginia football team played a home game at Madison Hall Field against North Carolina North Carolina Agricultural and Mechanical College (A&M). The final score was tied (0-0).
- 1915 – Henry Martin dies in Charlottesville. He was the head janitor and bell-ringer at the University of Virginia from at least 1868 until his retirement in 1909. Born enslaved at Monticello in 1826; after the Civil War, he worked at the school for more than four decades, becoming a well-known figure there.
