May 23:

  • 1923 – The laying of the cornerstone of Neve Hall was held this afternoon. The building being for the purpose of supporting mission work of the Archdeaconry of the Blue Ridge, in the Ragged Mountain District. The building is to serve as a community house for region comprising the University Missions under the charge of the Rector of St. Paul’s at the University of Virginia.
  • 1935 – Buses replace trolleys in city. Later that year, twenty persons were fined in a single day for parking in bus zones.
