- 1781 – Jack Jouett warned the Virginia Legislature meeting at Monticello of an intended raid by Colonel Banastre Tarleton, allowing a narrow escape.
- 1940 – the General Assembly of Virginia designated this day as Jack Jouett Day "in honor of a brave and loyal Virginian whose signal exploit will be remembered as long as men shall love true courage and noble and unselfish action".
