- 1819 – Virginia's General Assembly formally approves Central College in Charlottesville as the site for the University of Virginia. The Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia meet for the first time. Thomas Jefferson is appointed Rector, and Alexander Garrett, Bursar.
- 1806 – “An ACT to amend the several laws concerning slaves,” was passed by the General Assembly and prohibits the importation of slaves to Virginia and requires that any freed slaves leave the state within twelve months.
