- 1818 – President of the United States James Monroe, former presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court John Marshall joined 24 other dignitaries at a meeting held in the Mountain Top Tavern at Rockfish Gap. Under Jefferson's leadership, they selected nearby Charlottesville as the site of the new University of Virginia.
- 1877 – Dr. Eugene Dickerson is born in Charlottesville to Wilson and Fannie Reeves Dickerson.
- 1916 – Charlottesville became a city of the 1st class when it undertook annexation of a large portion of surrounding suburbs, which more than tripled its size. Subsequent annexations of Albemarle County land took place in 1939, 1963 and 1968.
- 1935 – Two chapels moved from Blue Ridge Archdeaconry to Albemarle on account of National Park land purchases.
