E-mail as primary source

I invited the founders to write out a history, which was sent to me via e-mail, and then I incorporated it into the page, which would not have been written without it. We need a better way to cite e-mail, because we're not going to stop using it as a communications tool. This is a defunct organization which is part of Charlottesville's infrastructure history, so we have to have a solution. I used cite: web because at least it had some of what I needed. --Sean Tubbs 18:02, 26 January 2011 (EST)

Don't get me wrong. I know you've changed the source rules to allow emails (not that I like it, but it's y'all's site). All I meant was that the cite web template only works when you're citing the web. E.g., you need an URL, which this doesn't have. -- B.S. Lawrence 20:16, 26 January 2011 (EST)
Sometimes I've got so little time to add I take whatever I can find. I'll try my hand at creating the e-mail cite. I get your concern, definitely, and am still thinking of ways to get it. We're reporters and so much of we get goes unpublished, which was sort of the genesis of this site anyway. Thanks for putting up with us, and the next time you're at CST, beer is on me.--Sean Tubbs 20:34, 26 January 2011 (EST)
Changed out bare cite to {{cite email}}. Not fixed, but at least the page is marked now. -- B.S. Lawrence 16:49, 30 January 2012 (EST)
