Stony Point is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County that was initially settled in the late 1720's. [1]

History

The region acknowledged as Stony Point includes the historical villages of Proffit and Rosena. The core of Stony Point is comprised of the Stony Point Volunteer Fire Company, Stony Point Elementary School, and several dozen surrounding homes. There is a general store called the Grand Junction.

In 1737, Roger Thompson (a son of Joseph Thompson) patented nearly 300 acres on Foster's Creek in Stony Point. General George Rogers Clark was born in the area in 1752.[2]

Prior to his arrest for the alleged murders of his mother and brother in 1870, John H. Salmon lived on the west side of the Southwest Mountain near Stony Point at his family farm.[3]

Susie Smith (1891 - 1961) and her second husband Dudley Perry both grew up in the community on Stony Point Road.
