Smart Beginnings was formed in 2007 as a public-private partnership between the Charlottesville/Albemarle Partnership for Children, the United Way - Thomas Jefferson Area and the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. The group received a $400,000 grant from the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation to develop a program to promote school readiness[1]. Miriam Rushfinn is the executive director.
