The Sammons Family Cemetery is the final resting place for members of a family of freed-slaves who lived in the Hydraulic area of Albemarle County. The cemetery is in the path of the Western Bypass and a campaign is underway to have the graveyard listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On August 27, 2013, the Keeper of the Register declared the site was eligible, affording it more protections under federal law. [1]
