Ruth Klüger (1931-2020) was a survivor of the Holocaust with a long career in academia who was Professor Emerita of German Studies at the University of California, Irvine.

Time at the University of Virginia

Klüger came to the University of Virginia in 1973 to study philosophy. She left in protest in 1976. [citation needed]

Klüger is one of the many people painted by artist Frances Brand as part of her Firsts series. In that painting, she is identified as Ruth Angress.
