Well known locally for being the first African American professional football player from Charlottesville to be named to the NFL Hall of Fame, Roosevelt Brown Boulevard is a street named in his honor.[2]By resolution at their regular meeting on September 18, 2006, the 2006 City Council unanimously approved re-naming a road as the “Roosevelt Brown Boulevard”, in honor of Roosevelt Brown, an NFL Hall-of-Famer and Charlottesville hometown hero. The road was previously known as the 9th/10th Street Connector.[3]
