2009 election for Board of Supervisors

On February 5, 2009 Thomas appeared on WINA AM 1070's Rob Schilling Show to make his campaign announcement. "I will work for the people of the Rio District, and all of Albemarle County," said Thomas. "I plan to knock on every door in the Rio district and find out what people's concerns are."

Thomas discussed his philosophy as a fiscal conservative. "The County needs to find a way to be more conservative with the tax dollars they are taking in," said Thomas. "I don't like the way things are being handled [in local government]....The Board needs to be more accountable [to the people]."
