Rodney Sterling Thomas (R) was elected to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors from the Rio Magisterial District on November 3, 2009. He defeated incumbent Democrat David Slutzky. Thomas is a former member of the Albemarle County Planning Commission[1]. Thomas is the President of Charlottesville Press. Thomas was appointed to the Planning Commission by former Supervisor David Bowerman. Thomas was unsuccessful in his bid to get the Republican Party's nomination in June 2005 when Gary Grant was picked to run for the open seat being vacated by Bowerman.
Biography
According to his campaign website, Thomas is a lifelong resident of Albemarle County[2]. He was born at The Martha Jefferson Hospital and attended Clark and Burnley-Moran Elementary Schools and graduated from Lane High School in 1962. He worked for the Daily Progress until 1979 when he purchased Charlottesville Press, Inc.
Thomas is a past board member of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, YMCA, Printing Industries of Virginia, Crime Stoppers and also past President of the Charlottesville Host Lion’s Club.
He is a 1999 graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia and is current member of Sorensen’s Regional Board of Directors.
