Area Governments
There are three major governmental entities that make decisions regarding the future of our region. Two are Virginia localities, and one is a major public university. Charlottesville is a 10.4 square mile independent City completely surrounded by Albemarle County. The University of Virginia is the region's primary employer, with 20,834 students enrolled in 2007-2008[1] and with over 12,000 faculty and staff[2]. Water and sewer is provided in the City of Charlottesville and in urbanized sections of Albemarle County by the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority.
Charlottesville Tomorrow features coverage of top-level public meetings of the City Council and the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, as well as the planning commission's in both localities. Visit [cvilletomorrow.typepad.com] for podcasts and articles about these meetings.
In addition, there are many governmental bodies and non-governmental groups that help shape the region's future. cvillepedia is a resource that brings it all together to help citizens navigate. We need your help to build it, so please volunteer today.
