The Piedmont Family YMCA plans construction of a fitness and aquatic center in the western half of McIntire Park, though the exact footprint is under question due to the economic downturn[citation needed]. They entered into a 40-year ground lease with the City of Charlottesville. The next public opportunity for comment will come when the Charlottesville Planning Commission considers a steep-slopes waiver at its meeting on October 13, 2009.
