Parag Agrawal has over 18 years’ experience in comprehensive planning, economic development, multimodal transportation systems, urban design, and historic preservation.

On November 4, 2020, Acting City Manager John Blair announces the appointment of Parag Agrawal as Director of Neighborhood Development Services.[1] Mr. Alex Ikefuna would serve as Deputy Director for Zoning alongside Ms. Missy Creasy who woull maintain her status as Deputy Director for Planning. Mr. Agrawal would report initially to Acting City Manager John Blair and he would start his service in the City of Charlottesville November 30, 2020.

"The Neighborhood Development Services Department has very committed and talented team members, and we will work together to serve the residents of Charlottesville," said Agrawal. "I want to thank Mr. Blair for this opportunity and I look forward to working with him in his current role and as City Attorney."[2]

Prince William County

On November 18, 2020 the Prince William Board of County Supervisors announce the hiring of Parag Agrawal as the new Planning Director for Prince William County. According to the county's new release, "the announcement comes following a nationwide search with a public survey and competitive hiring process. His expected start date is December 7, 2020 [3] at a salary of $170,000.

According to the Prince William Times, Agrawal was selected as the top-ranked candidate after a national recruitment process. Prince William County received 34 applications from 15 states. Candidates went through an extensive vetting process as part of a contract with a recruiter, The Novak Consulting Group. [4]The City of Charlottesville had announced on November 4 that it had hired Agrawal as its new director of NDS at a salary of $150,000.[5]

Bio

Mr. Agrawal had been with the City of Milton, GA (pop. 40,000) since 2018 where he administered the daily operations of the Community Development Department’s five function areas, including Planning and Zoning, Building Services, Land Development, Code Enforcement, and Land Conservation. Mr. Agrawal’s professional experience includes directing statewide planning in Rhode Island during 2015-2018 and serving as Planning Director in Bridgeport, CT during 2012-2015. He held additional positions in planning in Anne Arundel County, MD and in historic preservation in Columbus, OH.

Education

Mr. Agrawal earned a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the Ohio State University. He has an undergraduate degree in Architecture from Aligarh University in India.
