The Onesty Family Aquatic Center is a $4.5 million pool [citation needed] located in Meade Park.
2009 redevelopment
A newly constructed center opened on June 20, 2009. The original Onesty Pool opened in 1975 and was demolished in late 2008 after a 2005 needs assessment determined operating the pool was not cost-effective[1].
The pool complex has an area of 62,000 square feet, which would require a private developer to provide 104 parking spaces. However, the Charlottesville Planning Commission granted a waiver on September 9, 2008 to reduce the number of parking spaces to 38[2].
Attendance at the old pool was 7,101 in 2008. The average annual attendance between 2009 and 2012 was 31,826. [3]
