- 1743 –Thomas Jefferson’s birthday. Locally, the celebration is known as Founder’s Day. This date has been celebrated at the University of Virginia since the University’s first academic session. The Commonwealth of Virginia chartered the new college on January 25, 1819.
- 1893 – According to the Daily Progress "An immense locomotive, property of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad recently passed through here, bound for Chicago, where it will be exhibited a the World Fair...it was built at the Richmond Locomotive Works, with a capacity of holding 3,500 gallons of water."
- 2018 – Last date Thomas Jefferson’s birthday celebrated as an official holiday in the City of Charlottesville, as decided by the Charlottesville City Council (2018-2019) on July 3, 2019. News stories report that this change is because Jefferson was a slave owner.
