Monticello High School was built for $24 million. <ref>{{cite-progress-mg|title=High school completion set for August|author=Daniel M. Nonte|pageno=B1|printdate=April 2, 1998|publishdate=April 2, 1998|accessdate=February 13, 2016}}</ref> Named after [[Thomas Jefferson]]'s mansion estate, Monticello High School opened in 1998.  Monticello seniors participate in a special program every year called the [[Monticello High School Citizen Action Project]] designed to teach students about United States public policy. The school's mascot is the Mustang.
