J. Michael Crafaik III (August 9, 1971-December 14, 2008[1]) was a local restaurateur who twice ran as a Republican candidate for Charlottesville City Council.

Biography

Crafaik attended St. Anne's Belfield School and Corning Free Academy in Corning, New York, and graduated from Charlottesville High School and the University of Virginia. In 1994, he founded Michael's Bistro and Tap House on the University Corner[1].

Crafaik suffered from bipolar disorder and took his own life at Sugar Hollow Reservoir in early December 2008. [2]

1998 Election

At a press conference in late March, Crafaik called upon the City Council to hold a plebiscite on the Meadowcreek Parkway.

"Let's not put in the hands of three council members a decision so crucially important to many thousands," Crafaik said. [3]
