The Piedmont Family YMCA is planning on building a fitness and aquatic center in the western half of the Park, though the exact footprint is under question due to the economic downturn. A group called Save McIntire Park has formed to try to prevent this from occurring, or at least to ensure that the YMCA does not cause two softball fields at the park to be eliminated.
