Dr. Marcus L. Martin is the Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity at the University of Virginia.[1]

About

Born in Covington, Virginia, Martin attended North Carolina State University, where he earned his degree in pulp and paper technology in 1970 and chemical engineering in 1971. He earned his medical degree in 1976. He was the chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine from 1996 until 2006. In 2009, he was named Interim Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity, and officially appointed to the position on April 1, 2011.[1] Martin has contributed to schools in the area, including working to establish a medical science club at Charlottesville High School and contributing to a summer program at Burley Middle School. In 2009 Martin was recognized as one of the Daily Progress Distinguished Dozen for his work with the community.[2]

Martin was inducted into the Burley Varsity Club in 2017. [3]

Awards

In 2015, Wright was the recipient of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce's Paul Goodloe McIntire Citizenship Award. [4]
