Biography

Madison Cummings (D) is a resident of North Garden and a candidate for the Samuel Miller District seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. He was born and raised as one of three boys in Lexington, Virginia and graduated from Lexington High School in 1961 as the President of his class.[1] Cummings is currently a part-time pharmacist at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He retired from his full-time work in that same position in 2004. He moved to the area in 1970, is married to Pat Cummings, and has children and grand-children living in the community.

In 1997, Cummings was the first elected member of the Albemarle County School Board to represent the Samuel Miller District. He served two terms on the School Board during 1994-2001 and served as its Vice Chairman. Sally Thomas appointed Cummings to the School Board in 1994, before it became an elected body.

Cummings served on the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families from 2002 to 2008, including two years as the body's chair.

Election 2009

On May 11, 2009, Madison Cummings received the Democratic nomination to serve as the party's candidate fo the Samuel Miller District. He defeated fellow Democrat Lucia Phinney with 69 votes to Phinney's 48[2].
