1999 Election
Dorrier was nominated by the Albemarle County Democratic Party on June 2, 1999[4]. His opponent was former Albemarle County Sheriff Terry Hawkins. One of the major issues that year was growth in the County.
"My vision is to have a community with planned growth and a high quality of life," Dorrier told the Daily Progress[5]. He said one of his first priorities if elected would be to set up a joint meeting with the Charlottesville City Council to discuss regional cooperation on the issue.
Dorrier received 1,887 votes while Hawkins received 1218. Not counting write-in votes, Lindsay Dorrier received approximately 61% of the vote[6].
