Democrat Lindsey Dorrier easily fended off his two challengers in the race for the Scottsville seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Denny King and Kevin Fletcher split the opposition. Dorrier received 2,096 votes, Denny King received 897 votes, and Kevin Fletcher received 767 votes. Registered voter turnout in the Scottsville District was 35.7 percent.[3]

1999 election

Dorrier was nominated by the Albemarle County Democratic Party on June 2, 1999[5]. His opponent was former Albemarle County Sheriff Terry Hawkins. One of the major issues that year was growth in the County.

"My vision is to have a community with planned growth and a high quality of life," Dorrier told the Daily Progress[6]. He said one of his first priorities if elected would be to set up a joint meeting with the Charlottesville City Council to discuss regional cooperation on the issue.
