Installation of a light rail train network is frequently raised as a potential transportation item in the Albemarle County and Charlottesville area. There are currently no plans to build one, mostly due to a lack of the necessary popultion density to make it work. [citation needed]

Milestones
- The MPO-Tech Committee studied the issue and released a report in November 2004
