Lawrence Gaughan was an independent candidate for the Rivanna Magisterial District seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors in the 2015 election. He received 6 percent of the vote, losing to Democrat Norman Dill. [1]

In 2014, he ran as a Democrat in the Fifth District Congressional Race

2015 election

On March 10, 2015, he filed a statement of qualifications with the county registrar that indicated he would seek the Democratic nomination. He made a formal announcement at the Bamboo House on April 13, 2015. [2]

He amended his statement on April 16 to indicate he would be an independent. In a statement, Gaughan said he believed local races should be non-partisan. [3]
