- 1905 – President Theodore Roosevelt sees Pine Knot first time. President and Mrs. Roosevelt sleep at Pine Knot on June 9 and June 10.
- 1932 – Former Governor Harry Flood Byrd on this day termed the prohibition referendum opposing the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages as suggested by William G. McAdoo, illegal. [1]
Deaths
- 2004 – Roosevelt "Rosie" Brown, a native of the City of Charlottesville and one of the premier offensive linemen in U.S. pro football from 1953 to 1965, suffered a heart attack while gardening and died at his home in the Columbus, New Jersey, at age 71.
- 2006 – Linda Peacock - an assistant City Manager in Charlottesville [2]
