  • 2001Alice Jackson dies on this day. A life-long educator at various Black colleges throughout the country, Jackson became the first Black applicant to the University of Virginia in August of 1935 (her application was denied on the basis of race and "other good and sufficient reasons," according to a contemporary issue of the Richmond-Times Dispatch.
  • 2008Amy Carter Reid, Baptist pastor in Albemarle County in the mid 20th century [4]
