John Bowie Strange (1823-1862) was Colonel of the 19th Virginia Regiment, C. S. A. during the Civil War. [1] He was killed at the Battle of South Mountain (Maryland) on September 14, 1862.[1] He is buried in Charlottesville's Maplewood Cemetery.[2]

Namesake of the John Bowie Strange Camp of the United Confederate Veterans (UCV) as co-founded in 1889 by R. T. W. Duke, Sr..
