- 1819 – The General Assembly charters the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Following Jefferson’s prescription, and unlike most colleges at the time, it had no religious affiliation and no clergy among its faculty.[1]
- 1900 – The Board of Directors of the Consolidated Ice and Electric Company meet and approve the enlargement of the power plant. [2]
- 1905 – City Council meets to hear a committee report on expanding the city's water supply. [3]
Births
- 1715 – Thomas Walker, Jr. is born in King and Queen County to Dr. Thomas Walker, Sr. and Susanna Peachy Walker. A prominent physician and surveyor in Albemarle County, Walker owned the Castle Hill estate and led several expeditions into modern Kentucky.
