Holly Edwards was elected as a Democrat to the Charlottesville City Council on November 6, 2007[1]. She is a member of the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority's Board of Directors[2] as well as the working group that is overseeing the creation of the Regional Transit Authority. Edwards is one of the City of Charlottesville representatives serving on the Rivanna River Basin Commission.

Edwards was nominated to serve as Mayor at City Council's first meeting of 2010, but declined to accept the position[citation needed]. Instead, she was elected to serve as vice mayor.

Edwards announced that she would not seek re-election after her first term on council[3].

Biography

Edwards was born to physicist Rudolph Kerr, and his wife Bernice, an Educator. Edwards was was raised in Washington D.C.

Edwards moved to Charlottesville in 1991 after accepting a nursing scholarship at the University of Virginia. She lives in Belmont with her husband, Kendrick, and daughters Christen, Shelby, Bernice and Jean[4].

In 2004, Edwards was selected as one of the distinguished dozen award given by the Daily Progress[5].

As of February 7, 2011 Edwards represents the City on the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, the Rivanna River Basin Commission, and the Planning and Coordination Council.[6]
