Greene County is 20 miles north of downtown Charlottesville; Albemarle County is at its southern border. The county population was 19,779 in 2018, according to the United States Census Bureau. The county seat is Stanardsville. Greene County is a member of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. It is part of the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Government

Greene County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors. Prior to the mid-1980's, there were only three members. [1]

Mark B. Taylor became the the new administrator on April 9, 2019. [2]

Independent Edwin Consolvo defeated incumbent Republican Matthew Hardin for Commonwealth's Attorney.
