Gary O'Connell has been the City Manager of Charlottesville since November 1995.
Biography
O'Connell holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Tennessee, and is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College.
Before coming to Charlottesville, O'Connell served six years as Assistsnt City Manager of Maryville, Tennessee. In Charlottesville, prior to becoming City Manager, he served 14 years as Deputy City Manager.
O'Connell is married with three children.

O'Connell took medical leave for a non-life-threatening condition beginning October 22, 2009, and is expected to return before November 23[1]

- Airport Authority Board
- Jail Authority
O'Connell also serves on the boards of a variety of other community organizations, including:

- Visitor's Bureau
- The United Way Thomas Jefferson Area
- Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce
