Biography

Gibson was a native of Fifeville and was a proponent of increasing race relations in Charlottesville. For his service, City Council named a portion of Avon Street for Gibson at their meeting on September 17, 2012. [2] However, the first sign posted to commemorate the honor contained a misspelling. [3]

After his father died, Gibson had to drop out of the McGuffey School. [4] He was known for supporting those in need and his store was considered to be a melting pot in the community.
