Elsie Barkdale Ray was shot and killed by a Mrs. William P. Casey on January 9, 1934 due to an alleged affair. [1]

Ray was originally from Batesville and was employed at the New Presto restaurant on West Main Street.

Murder

The murder occurred on Preston Avenue near Tenth Street after a confrontation over the relationship. Casey shot Ray in the head and she was taken to the University Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
