Duanne Carter is one of several people depicted by Charlottesville folk artist Frances Brand as part of her "Firsts" series.

She was born on May 2, 1930 and died on November 23, 2015 while surrounded by her family at the University of Virginia Hospital. [1]

Carter was selected for being the president of the Charlottesville chapter of a group called Soroptimists International Club for professional women who provided volunteer service to their communities.
