Dave Norris is currently the Mayor of Charlottesville, a post he has served in since 2008. Norris was first elected to Charlottesville City Council in 2006 and subsequently reelected in 2009.
Biography
Dave Norris is the Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge[2]. He previously was employed as Executive Director of PACEM, the Associate Director of Madison House and the Interim Director of PHAR (the Public Housing Association of Residents). Norris is the former Chairman of the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. For his extensive record of leadership and service to the Charlottesville community, Dave was named one of the "Distinguished Dozen" by the Charlottesville Daily Progress for 2005. He is also the founder of the Charlottesville Vegetarian Festival. He lives in Belmont with his children Eli and Chloe[1].

Overall voter turnout for City of Charlottesville in this election was 37.31%. Each voter could vote for up to two candidates.
Democratic Nomination
On May 9, 2009, Norris was the top vote-getter in an "unassembled caucus" held by Charlottesville's Democratic Party. Kristin Szakos beat out incumbent Julian Taliaferro as the party's second nominee.[4]
On Friday, September 25th, The Sierra Club endorsed Norris along with opponent Bob Fenwick[5].
