Dave Ghamandi is an Albemarle resident[1] who can often be seen speaking during City Council meetings. [2] [3]

Education

In 2012, Dave Shankar Ghamandi graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Information and Library Science with a Master of Science in Library Science. [4]

Employment

Ghamandi is managing editor of Aperio Journals, an Open Publishing joint venture between the University of Virginia Library and the University of Virginia Press. Aperio Journals stated goal is to provide open access to “knowledge for a global audience in a variety of formats --journals, monographs, conferences, open educational resources, etc.” Aperio encourages editorial members to seek out board members, reviewers, and authors from underrepresented populations by race, gender, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, ability, age, and class.” Aperio staff “evaluate proposals and expressions of interest to determine whether they meet our scope and guidelines”.   • January 2, 2018, "Community Matters" public comments:[6] ...white men cannot preach civility. He said he is against neo-liberal trickle-down economic policies and trickle-down housing policies. He asked for a recovery package for Hardy Drive, not the Downtown Mall or Main Street. He called for a socialist future.[7]
  • January 16, 2018, "Community Matters" public comments: Ghamandi recommended "Open City Hall", as is currently used by Asheville, N.C. He said information should be posted further in advance of a Council vote. He recommended the City Manager and his deputies making their calendars public. He said a bailout for businesses should not happen before reparations.[8]
