Timelines

Dipity

  • Slow to the point of frustration at times
  • Easy to use and nice to look at.

Dipity Main Site

Tiki-Toki

  • Very nice looking.
  • $20/month
  • Limit to 25 (free version limits to one and cannot embed)

Tiki-Toki Main Site

Time Glider

  • Easy to use
  • Easy import for timelines
  • Pictures and links (problem - when there are more than one event in one area sometimes the pictures make things incredibly cluttered. Can resize pictures and widget frame, though).
  • Free account allows three timelines. Time Glider Plus ($5) that allows for easy imports.

Timeline Verite

  • Very easy to use (can make in Google Docs)
  • Free
  • Working with Google Docs you can't always see what you're doing until you embed/post
  • Can get cluttered (fixed by making the widget frame larger)
  • Can also get downloaded free version (for which importing should be easy), unfortunately I haven't gotten it to work with out site. It produces a more complicated timeline but requires pure HTML
